“Hang Your Head Up”

We’re stolen generation

Parents stolen by work

Or sinking back the bottle

While we play in the dirt

We always keep our mouths closed

We don’t spill out the violence

We never want to impose

So we scream out in silence

We go to church

We say our prayers

At night we hug our teddy bears

Mummy loves us

Daddy loves us

Even when our Daddy shoves us

We cry out to be seen

Coz we invisible

We sit behind our fences

Keep us divisible

We grow up feeling separate

Craving mass unity

We don’t know how to love

Or live in community

Put on your best shoes and clothes

Hang your secrets up in rows

Clean your teeth and go to bed

But don’t forget your screaming head
